shadydavereasons why jonathon swift is cool:
1. he makes fun of john dryden (he of the awful rhyming couplets translation of the aeneid).
2. he decides that the answer to the irish question is, in fact, anthropophagy.
in other news, i burnt my fingers taking my mug out of the microwave this morning. to my credit, i did not scream, drop the mug, and spill boiling water over the rest of my hand. am still trying to figure out how i managed to burn myself, being as i microwaved my mug for the same amount of time i always do, and have never burnt myself before. quite mysterious. it actually isn't too bad (no blisters or anything), i just like to complain. although it makes holding a pen quite interesting.
geology, while being somewhat lacking in the amusing textbook sense this chapter, has suggested yet another band name, "polar wander". nothing is as good as "THE P-WAVE SHADOW ZONE," though.
equally entertaining, i have discovered that there is in fact a book called sharpe's christmas. the only way this could be better is if it was named sharpe's holiday special. also discovered this (courtesy of kirstin). ninja wizards! hee.
