So, yesterday Courtney and I were discussing how there needs to be Shakespeare IN SPACE! And then we came up with the BEST MOVIE IDEA EVER.

Me: we should write to kenneth branagh

Courtney: i'm suddenly flashing on a time travelling blackadder

Me: darcy + shakespeare IN SPACE

Courtney: oooh
does this elizabeth bennet ACTUALLY fence w/ Darcy
instead of just verbally doing it?

Me: sure!
with LIGHTSABERS
because they are jedi

Courtney: ooh, totally jedi
but mrs. bennet didn't want lizzie to be a jedi
at least not the fighty kind
better the zen kind like jane

Me: i was thinking jane was a senator for the republic
as is bingley

Courtney: even better

Me: wickham can be a sith lord who seduces kitty to the dark side
he used to be darcy's padawan

Courtney: and then we can haz epic battle?
wickham v darcy!

because all epic battles require chasms/firepits/both

me: ohh! and lady catherine de bourgh is also a sith lord
because lizzie should get an awesome fight too

Courtney: ooh
which mean darcy has sithlord family angst

Me: hurray!

Courtney: on top of his inability to string 3 sentences together

Me: hehehe
i think he doesn't know they are sith lords, just suspects
but doesn't want to say anything, because it would destroy their reputation

Courtney: of course, mr. collins is an uptight jedi who sort of just slides over to the darkside because he serves lady catherine

Me: no, i think he is just a jedi
he doesn't know she is evil
and is shocked and horrified when he finds out
fortunately, charlotte is there to handle things

Courtney: i was thinking of the uber rule folling type who end up letting more bad things happen than not because there be RULES
you know, the sort sith lords love to play with

Me: good point
hmm
so, if lady catherine is basically count dooku
mr collins can be head of the trade federation

Courtney: okay

Me: i don't think he's awesome enough to be a jedi

Courtney: he belongs in the bureaucracy
LYDIA! that's who wickham really runs off with

Me: that's what i meant

Courtney: kitty's the silly slightly older sister
so, elizabeth and darcy team up on a mission to fight sithlords?

Me: hmmm

Courtney: i'm trying to figure out the story we're making up

Me: i think it would be more lizzie meets darcy and thinks he is a sith lord, because wickham tells her so
"dark side and prejudice"

Courtney: even better

Me: so it can follow the basic plot, but with more lightsaber fights

Courtney: therre's very little lightsaber fights can't improve
also? spaceship battles

Me: i wonder where they would go?

Courtney: off to the side, like the napoleonic wars

Me: excellent

Courtney: very good then

Me: this will go well with the zombie hunter version of mansfield park

In other awesome news, Lost in Translation is way too much fun. Basically, it generates instant Engrish by running a phrase through Babelfish several times. Hilarity ensues.

I was thinking Fitzwilliam was more a Han Solo-type, like a roguish but lovable smuggler. Wickham would be a Sith Lord disguised as a Dashing Mercenary Bounty Hunter. I still like the idea of Lady Catherine as Count Dooku, though.
