Can't speak for the book, but the movie is HILARIOUS. Truly it was the hit comedy of the season.

I was forced into watching it with the commentary on, and it was horrible without even hearing them speak. Would probably be hilarious amongst a group of people who realize it's ridiculousness, but instead I was with people who just kept squealing at whatever stupid thing Robert Pattinson said about the movie, so it was just an agonizing experience.
