a critic, in 1977, on Star Wars:

"It's both an apotheosis of "Flash Gordon" serials and a witty critique that makes associations with a variety of literature that is nothing if not eclectic: "Quo Vadis?", "Buck Rogers," "Ivanhoe," "Superman," "The Wizard of Oz," "The Gospel According to St. Matthew," the legend of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table."

man, how could i forget the part in quo vadis where vinicius blows up rome with a well-placed proton torpedo? or when petronius gets into that thrilling lightsaber fight with tegillinus? or when that lovable comic duo, sts. peter and paul, accidentally leave the mammertine in an escape pod? or when nero dresses all in black and goes around breathing loudly and choking people*?

seriously though. what?

* ok, so that might actually have happened

XD; Thank you. That just brightened my day.

I would really love to know how Star Wars and Quo Vadis are in any way connected.

help me, gaius petronius! you're my only hope!

i have NO idea. even my twisted english-major mind can't find a connection, and i've written some pretty strange papers on bizarre comparisons.

well, now that i think about it, the arena scene at the end of attack of the dialogue clones was vaguely remniscent of quo vadis. however, i don't seem to recall christopher lee tossing his toga over anyone's head, or st. peter whipping out his badass purple lightsaber and going "this party's over" to nero.

although that would have been pretty cool.
