So, work hasn't exactly been exciting recently, with the exception of Governor Rendell signing the new budget for PA public schools, which was pretty cool. It's supposed to allocate more money without raising taxes, which I am a fan of, although since our school district alone has an adequacy gap of $4000/kid, I somehow doubt it will take care of ALL the budget problems.

Oh, and I also have job security now, since our Main Office secretary is transferring to the Transportation office, which means our Registrar's assistant will take over the Main Office, which means I will be the Registrar's assistant. Hurrah!

In other exciting news, I had a dentist's appointment, and there was NOTHING WRONG with my teeth! Amazing!

In the entertainment portion of our program, Marge and I tried to see WALL-E last weekend, but were THWARTED when the power in the theater went out. This also happened when we went to see I, Robot, which makes me wonder if we are somehow in a low-budget Terminator situation where we are critical to stopping a robot uprising in the future, and the robots are traveling back in time to keep us from watching robot movies which hold the key to our success.

However, we DID see The Dark Knight, which was super awesome. As has been widely reported, Heath Ledger is really creepy as the Joker, and totally deserves an Oscar nomination. Maggie Gyllenhaal is also much more awesome than Katie Holmes, although this does not explain why she looks a thousand years old. Christian Bale remains hot, although sadly did not spend nearly as much time with his shirt off in this movie.

ETA: I forgot to link to Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, aka "What I did during the writer's strike, by Joss Whedon, age 6." It's a mini-musical! About supervillains! It's got awesome music and Nathan Fillion singing (in addition to typical Joss Whedonosity, but I won't get into that)! If you're a fan of Buffy, Angel, Firefly, or just awesome things in general, go watch it! Right now! < /exclamation point >

I finally got around to reading Havemercy, which is the book by Jaida Jones (of Shoebox Project fame) and Dani Bennett. It was good, but not as awesome as Shoebox, and I think I would have enjoyed it a little more if I didn't have such high expectations. However, if you want to read about mechanical dragons, this is the book for you! Because there is nothing that is not awesome about mechanical dragons.

I also finished reading Parzival, which is Wolfram von Eschenbach's (complete but not as good) version of Chr├ętien's Perceval/The Story of the Grail. You can tell them apart because Chr├ętien smokes the good stuff while Wolfram is moderately insane.

Anyways, like the many generations of readers of Arthurian literature before me, I was inspired to iconage.

Medieval icons ::ba-dump chh!:: )

And now for the weather.
shadydave: (Sucks for you!)
After watching the end of season 3 of BSG, I am again filled with love! So I made icons.

He's a Tigh-rate )

Subject line courtesy of Mystery Science Theater 3000: Overload at the Memory Bank. Heh. Maybe that should be my new tag.

Anyways, it is time to unveil a brand spiffy new icon! )

Babble about Doctor Who )

We are waiting for Kurt's friend to pick him up so we can go get dinner, and then I can go to Mal's for a margarita partay! Whooo! It was supposed to be a pool partay, but OF COURSE the hot, sticky weather we've had all week had to turn into cool, sticky weather with rain. BOOOOOOOOOO. At least the margaritas will still be tasty.

In conclusion: Someone called work today and asked about "Coast Guard Training Lessons". Um, what the HELL were you thinking? Seriously.

I nearly forgot about this! SPooN/MST 3K icon!

Consequences of the YED's Ev0l Plan )

ETA: So I finally got around to reading SPooN episode reactions, and thought of a couple questions:

Surely you can't be serious! )

I watched The Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn yesterday, and I was inspired. Or maybe possessed. Anyways, clearly what the world needs is SPooN/Army of Darkness icons.

Listen up, you primitive screwheads... )

So, just got back from rehearsal with the Williamsburg Choral Guild and the Kwah. 2.5 hour rehearsals = sucks out louds. We, however, did not suck out loud. "Crying for My Dignity a Dream" remains the cheesiest set of songs ever. Furthermore, I have come up with another quibble with it. I assume the concert kind of has a Thanksgiving-y theme, what with "The Promise of Living" and all the Yay America! type songs and whatnot. So why are we singing a piece about the Lakota Sioux? Undoubtably they are just as cool as all the other American Indians, but 1) they live in Dakota territory, far away from the original colonies, and 2) of the many encounters with the American government, most were along the lines of the Battle of Little Bighorn. So yeah, not exactly a Yay America! association with the fighting and land-snatching and all. I'm annoyed that whoever picked this piece probably didn't bother to think beyond "Hey, Indians go with Thanksgiving!" and didn't bother to find any Wampanoag songs or anything. It's like singing in Spanish instead of Polish, cause hey, they're both in Europe.

Also, I will never be able to take it seriously. There is meaningful narration and multiple rainsticks. The people who wrote Pocahontas would go "Say, this is a bit much".

In other news, I made more SPooN icons! 'In My Time of Dying' Iconses )

A Word of Advice: Do not attempt to swing arms briskly forward when there is a desk in the way. This only leads to pain and reduced use of your right hand index and middle fingers. Ouchies.

Another Word of Advice: Be really careful about your segueways whilst IMing people.

In which I apparently admitted I have Fal-diddle-i-urum Dysfunction )

In other news, I have not been overwhelmed by homework. Huzzah! My classes are pretty awesome too, as are my professors, so all is well in the academic world. Also, I've come up with a tentative idea for my Monroe Scholar's project that would incorporate a touring the British Isles with Katherine, which is also pretty awesome and a Load Off My Mind. Being pressured to find something to do with $3000 can be stressful, you know.

In the entertainment portion of tonight's program my life, last night we watched Erik the Viking and Kronk's New Groove. Erik the Viking was originally a Monty Python thing, and then it did end up with Monty Python people in it, but alas, it is not up to Monty Python caliber. It was, however, on lots of crack. Percy/Darling from Blackadder was in it as Sven the Berserk, so that was fun. In conclusion: Tim Robbins often looks like a girl. Kronk's New Groove was of course not nearly as good as the original, but it was pretty funny. However, it was also deeply, deeply disturbing. Definitely not required viewing. In conclusion: Pancake Junction!

We also went to the IT (Improv Theater) show, and guess what! They're actually funny again! Huzzah!

Because I am, in fact, too hip for the educational institute, I made another spoon icon:

Carry on, wayward icon )

And, finally, I present to you the Bad Goth Poetry Generator!. If only Natasha were here.

This is what happens when you watch too much TV.
